1860s bedroom with blue walls, printed drapes on tall windows, Chaise in front of marble mantel chanpagne robe and flowers on bed with red duvetCalling all antique and collectible lovers – with approximately 80 stores and antique malls along the Northwest Illinois Antique Trail’s six routes, you’ll need to spend more than just a weekend to enjoy antiquing at a leisurely pace. Bernadine’s Stillman Inn in Galena has the perfect answer this spring and summer – when you reserve a three night stay that includes a Tuesday night, you’ll only pay for two – the third night is FREE! Think of all the fun you can have shopping for a great collectible or two with the money you’ll save!

Begin your Antique Trail in Galena’s Historic District, on the National Register of Historic Places. You’ll find everything from antique jewelry to iron décor, architectural salvage to 40’s and 50’s retro, glassware to books and more among the dozen shops on Main and Commerce Streets. Galena is only the starting point…the Northwest Illinois Antique Trail’s six routes identify stops along different  highways in the area – US 20, US 54, Highway 84, Highway 78, Highway 26, and I-88. For example, from Galena to Ridott, Illinois, you’ll find 24 stops in 58 miles along US Route 20. From Elizabeth (15 miles from Galena) south on Highway 84 along the Mississippi, you’ll find 11 stops before you reach Albany, less than 50 miles away.

Best of all, you don’t have to follow just one route on the Trail – you can create your own itinerary, based on stores that offer the kinds of things you collect, or include stores on different suggested routes, but all within 30 miles or less from Galena.  For example, Elizabeth, just 20 minutes from Galena, has stores like Dejawood, featuring reclaimed, redesigned wood items, Common Sense: Repurpose, Reuse, Restyle and A Bushel and A Peck, located in a restored grange, and offering local products such as jams, honey, eggs as well as antiques and collectibles. Venture another 15 minutes east to Stockton, where you’ll find Antiques Etcetera, a multi-vendor store.

Our 1858 restored French Italianate mansion is the perfect place to relax after your days of antiquing in Galena and the surrounding areas. Choose a guest room inspired by the Civil War era, or one with a more contemporary theme – all of them have great modern amenities. Start each day with ‘The Best Breakfast in the Midwest’, choose one of the many restaurants in Galena’s Historic District for dinner in the evening, then return to the inn to enjoy Grandma’s After-dinner Dessert or chocolate chip cookies in our historic parlor while you plan your next stops on the Antique Trail.
