Note From Your Innkeepers:

It has been a great year here at the Stillman Inn thanks to your patronage.  The addition of the Tea Room made for an exciting summer.  What a great time was had by all who visited and Mom just loved baking, cooking and serving.  Thank you for the time you spent with us there and at the Inn.

We love getting to know new guests and we especially love it when people return for a visit.  What a great compliment that is to us.  We have been strengthened by your stories and always excited to see it is a small world.  One of our favorite stories is when a couple stayed in the fireplace room “Dreams of the Past” and spotted a message that was left in the room book by some old friends they had not seen in some time.  After they left they emailed us to say that they had gotten in touch with them and were planning a visit.  How wonderfu and how small indeed that they should have stayed in the same inn, the same room and read their page where they left a message.  Love it!

We also held our first Fiber Retreat and what a blast that was!  We are taking advantage of the slow season to offer great deals to people who share my love for quilting and knitting, crocheting, etc.

Check our our website for dates!

Galena is beautiful this time of year.  Downtown is all decorated in evergreen boughs!

Thank you again for your patronage, Merry Christmas and see you soon!

Don’t forget your 10% discount when you stay with us again.

Recipe Of The Month:

Laundry soap homemade

This is a terrific low-sudsing laundry detergent.  You can find Fels Naptha soap in most grocery stores.  It’s a bar of soap. Washing Soda and Borax can be found by the laundry detergents.

  • 1/3 Bar fels naptha soap
  • 1/2 Cup Washing soda
  • 1/2 Cup Borax powder
  • 2 Gallon size bucket

  1. Grate soap and put in sauce pan. Add 6 cups water and heat until soap melts.
  2. Add washing soda and borax and stir til dissolved. Remove from heat
  3. Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket.
  4. Add soap mixture and stir
  5. Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir
  6. Let soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel
  7. Use 1/2 cup per load. Costs .01 cents a load

Innkeepers Tip of the Day:

To Tip or Not to Tip….That is the Question.

Did you know that originally there was a “TIP Box” on tables at restaurants.  This was “To Insurance Prompt Service”. Patrons would deposit coins into the box after being seated.  This would alert the wait staff to give them “extra special attention” during their meal.

Today wait staff in restaurants make BELOW minimum wage.

They rely heavily on your tips to make ends meet!

We pay our cleaning staff a good rate to assure they are happy and do a great job for you. If you are pleased with the cleanliness of your room and wish to “gift” the staff feel free to do so.  Most people do not tip when they stay at a Bed and Breakfast but it sure makes the staffs day when they do!
